WE have heard stories of love at first sight in beer halls but how about a real life story of a man divorcing his wife in a beer garden and savagely assaulting her before forcibly inserting his fingers into her nose?
This one takes a biscuit and it happened at one of the city centre's popular beer gardens.
This came to light during the initial appearance of Tedious Mukura (34) of Hideout Compound Lobenvale Sauercetown before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tawanda Muchemwa.
He was facing two counts of physical abuse and contempt of court as defined in section 4 as read with section 3 (1) (a) and section 10 (7) of the Domestic Violence Act chapter 5:16.
It is reported that Mukura who on 4 November was issued with a Protection Order stopping him from physically and verbally abusing his wife Paulene Nedi (34), on 15 November he reportedly breached the contents of the order when he assaulted her again.
He was accusing her of being a 'bitch' and immediately 'divorced' her in front of other patrons.
The court proceedings as presented by prosecutor Mr Dumisani Moyo are that on the date in question at around 9 pm, Nedi was at a drinking spot in the city centre.
While at the drinking spot situated along Jason Moyo between 10th and 11th Avenues she reportedly received a call from her husband who wanted to know where she was.
After telling him her hideout Mukura later went there and upon arrival he told her that he had changed the keys to the house.
The court heard that the accused person told the complainant that he was not returning home and the later requested for the keys so that she would have access to the house.
Mukura for reasons best known to him reportedly started launching a scathing attack on Nedi calling her a bitch.
He went on to forcibly grab her neck and pushed her to the ground and started assaulting her with fists and open hands on her face and chest.
The violent accused person reportedly went on to insert his two fingers into the complainant's nose.
After the callous acts Mukura much to the puzzlement of other imbibers he went on to shout at the helpless complainant saying she should not come to his house as he was no longer in love with her.
Nedi fearing for her life from the marauding Mukura reportedly rushed and locked herself in the toilet.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person.
Mukura for the offence of turning his wife into a punching bag, was not formally charged and was remanded in custody to 1 December.
