Jilted lover regularly assaulted former girlfriend

A man from Makokoba in Bulawayo who was dumped by his girlfriend later resorted to assaulting her each time he met her, accusing her of reporting to the police and making his clothes disappear.

Sithathilizwe Maburawa Mkandla (36) was not asked to plead to assault charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sithembiso Ncube. The magistrate further remanded him for trial.

The court heard that Mkandla and the complainant Ntando Mpofu (26) were lovers and on February 4 this year they met at Makokoba and Mkandla asked for the clothes he bought for the complainant. The complainant said she no longer have them. He started accusing her of alerting the police about his where about before starting to assault her.

On July 12 this year the complainant was at her home when Mkandla arrived and knocked at the door. The complainant asked who he was and when he revealed that he was Mkandla the woman hid. Mkandla allegedly broke the window and got in before searching for her and locating her hiding behind the door. He then assaulted her all over with clinched fists.

She sustained some injuries and a report made to the police led to his arrest.
