Bulawayo with a population of more than one million residents should brace for 48 hour water cut regime.

The city currently has 30.5% water capacity at its available supply dams.

Council is due to introduce a strict water shedding regime next week.

Residents will go for 24 hours without water.

The 48 hour programme will kick in in December if there are no enough rains in November, officials said.

On today (Tuesday) council officials told stakeholders during a water crisis meeting that the city has been relying on 2014 rains as not much was received last year.

Last year around this time the dams had 46.75 %.

Upper Ncema and Umzingwane Dams have been decommissioned .
