Illegal Egyptian nabbed in Zimbabwe, deported

An Egyptian national was arrested in Bulawayo for remaining in Zimbabwe illegally.

Lofty Khedr (32) pleaded guilty to the charge of remaining in Zimbabwe illegal when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya.

The magistrate convicted him and ordered him to pay $150 fine with an option of 60 days in jail.

He also ordered that he be deported to his country immediately.

The court heard that on November 2 this year at 8am detectives from border control unity received a tip that  that Khedr was in the country illegal and had been arrested and kept at the Hillside Police Station.

They went to interview him. He confessed being an Egyptian who entered Zimbabwe through Harare International Airport in March this year and remained in the country since then.

He failed to produce any form of identification later alone valid travel documents.

This led to his arrest.
