A man from Pumula South is in trouble after he allegedly killed his drinking mate following their expulsion from a shebeen after he allegedly stole surf from the toilet.

Khulumani Ndlovu (34) was not asked to plead to the murder of his drinking mate Decent Nyathi when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure. He was further remanded out of custody on $60 bail.

On November 15 he defaulted appearing in court prompting the magistrate Tinashe Tashaya to issue a warrant of arrest against him.

The court heard that on May 7 2016 at 8pm the two drinking mates were at house number 14179 Pumula South Bulawayo where a shebeen is being operated by Sikhalwesihle Dube. They were drinking beer. It is alleged that they were chased from the house after Nyathi stole surf from the toilet.

As the two went out of the shebeen they had quarrel and the now deceased poked Nyathi with his fingers accusing him of causing their expulsion from the drinking spot.

This prompted Nyathi to end up retaliating leading to a serious fight between the two. Ndlovu assaulted Nyathi and he fell down. Ndlovu continued to kick him. Ndlovu left him lying down and he later staggered to his home where he slept and died.

Nyathi was discovered lying dead on his bed by relatives and they reported the matter to the police. His body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospital for postmortem.

On May 11 Ndlovu reportedly drunk rat poison after hearing that his friend had died as a result of the assault he rendered on him. He was rushed to hospital where he was treated and discharged. He was later arrested for the murder.
