Nguni defends wasteful spending by his Zacc colleagues

ZIMBABWE Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) commissioner, Goodson Nguni yesterday claimed the trip to Hong Kong by his two colleagues was above board.

Speaking at a Press conference at the Zacc offices yesterday, which he called in response to a NewsDay story, which revealed how commissioners went on an unsanctioned trip, Nguni claimed people, who were being investigated by the anti-graft body, leaked the story to the media.

"There are people, who have committed fraud, have looted State resources and would like to blemish Zacc's image because they dared to arrest a high and mighty man, who thinks that he is immune from arrest," he said.

Nguni alleged that Zacc agreed that commissioners would go in two groups, with the last one expected to attend the course in April next year.

He also denied that Reserve Bank of ZImbabwe funds were used and that the two commissioners, who went to Hong Kong, also bought tickets for their spouses.
