Citizens Against Violence and Anarchy (CAVAA), a local organisation representing the interests of a wide range of stakeholders in Zimbabwe who cherish peaceful elections has dragged the National Electoral Reform Agenda (Nera) to court over damages and loss of property allegedly caused by their protestors.
Representatives of CAVA, Elton Paul Ziki and its chairperson Faustino Mazango, on Tuesday filed an application with the High Court seeking an order to have National Electoral Reform Agenda (Nera) pay for damages for loss of property allegedly caused by their members during their protests.
NERA, which is led by MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai, ZimPF leader Joice Mujuru and others claims to be a bipartisan front aiming to enable all pro-democracy parties to speak with one voice and push for electoral reforms.
The anti-violence organisation said via Twitter: "Organisations which partake in demonstrations that turn violent must be held accountable."
CAVA argues that NERA must have put in place adequate measures to ensure that their demonstrations were conducted peacefully.
CAVA representatives said various protests that took place in most parts of the country under NERA over a period June to August this year and reported in the media show that they were violent and damaged property.
Moreover, CAVA argues that NERA must have complied with the directions given to them by the police.
CAVA says it has documented evidence from the published government gazette, newspapers, social media postings, all local radios stations and ZBC TV station of Nera inciting members to join.
