Zim govt requests for US$268 million

The Zimbabwean government and the United Nations have launched the Consolidated Appeal Process (CAP), requesting US$268 million to address the country's humanitarian situation in 2012.
UN Humanitarian Coordinator Country Representative, Mr Alain Noudehou said the programme will enable the country to address most of the challenges it is facing especially in health and food aid.
The Minister of Regional Integration and international Cooperation, Mrs Priscilla Misihairambwi-Mushonga said though the situation in the country has improved, people should not lose sight.
The country continues to fall victim to uncertain weather patterns, a development which has seen farming becoming unpredictable.
This has also compromised the country's humanitarian situation in the 2010-2011 seasons as about six provinces in the country did not receive good harvests.
The 2012 CAP request of US$268 million is a significant reduction in humanitarian needs of the country compared with the year 2011, which had US$478 million.
According to statistics released by the United Nations, about 1 million people will be in need of food aid from November 2011 to March 2012.
