The sudden swelling of testicles and death of Edmore Mubhobho (39) from Village 18 under Chief Vhiki allegedly after chasing a hare has left tongues wagging with many concluding he was killed by witches.
Doctors at Masvingo General Hospital said Mubhobho's testicles had grown to the size of a pumpkin.
He died two days later on Tuesday at Masvingo General Hospital.
"Mubhobho was coming from his garden on Sunday afternoon when he saw a hare and started chasing after it and it passed through his yard but he failed to catch it.
"Later on he came back home complaining of severe stomach pain and was taken to Bikita Hospital where he was quickly transferred to Masvingo General as his testicles continued to swell at an alarming rate," said the source.
However, medical doctors said that he died of a medical condition called 'incarcerated hernia', caused by intestines getting into the testicles causing them to swell.
"The testicles were as big as a pumpkin or a five litre container," said a medical source at the hospital.
The body was taken from the mortuary on Wednesday for burial.
