A 27-year-old man reportedly assaulted his wife for denying him conjugal rights.

Dennis Makamba pleaded guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Takunda Mutetwa.

The presiding magistrate deferred the sentence in order to ascertain whether the accused was a first offender or not.

"The court is now waiting to hear from the police whether the accused has committed a similar offence before.

"The sentence will be pronounced on November 28 after these findings," said the magistrate.

During mitigation, Dennis told the court that what angered him was the fact that his wife Nomsa Sako had denied him his conjugal rights.

"I am married to my wife under Chapter 5.11 but for the past three months she has not been sleeping with me.

"On the day in question I tried to make some advances and she started insulting me so I ended up assaulting her."

The State, led by Norman Koropi proved that on November 22 at around 9 o'clock Dennis had a misunderstanding with his wife whilst they were in their matrimonial bedroom.

On November 23, Nomsa lodged a complaint with the police which led to Dennis' arrest.
