A political commentator Petros Joseph Dube‎  has said it is not easy to have President Robert Mugabe succeeded considering his alleged evil record since independence in 1980.

"Is not as easy or simple as it may sound . Mugabe's office committed a lot of crimes and whoever takes over should face/deal with the consequences thereof. Issues like Gukurahundi which eventually led to tribalism and Shona hegemony will not be swept under the rug or carpet forever," he said.

"With that in mind I can assure you that they will try by all means to push for Ngwena ( Emmerson Mnangagwa) or (Sydney) Sekeramayi to succeed him . They have to put someone who can protect them.Mugabe is in quandary, it seems like either option leads to a dead end hence his prolonged stay in power."

He said His excellency has offered to resign long time back but no one has shown any eagerness to succeed him.

"Recently we have been hearing about the resignation of his counterparts but surprisingly he is preferred to contest again in 2018.Do you think this is normal ?" he asked.

Mugabe has run the country since 1980.
