Rains destroy crops, infrastructures

Violent rains were witnessed in most areas around Mashonaland Central province destroying infrastructures and crops on Monday.

Bulawayo24.com visited Guruve area where heavy wind and hail storm destroyed roofs of buildings and uprooted some trees.

According to Agritex Field officer Crops in farms around Mvurwi were destroyed by hail storm especially tobacco.

"Hail storm destroyed crops around Mvurwi yesterday that is Usaka farm, Galloway, Stockwell and Earling Eastworrds,but the damage extend is not yet established, said the source.

Kombi operators plying Muzarabani\Centenary route also witnessed hail storm filling pot holes and they had to reduce speed in order to reach their destinations.

Despite the forecast by Metrological Service Department that Zimbabwe is set to receive higher than normal rainfall in the 2016 – 2017 many farmers have been disturbed so far by violent rains there by posing a threat to the nation's food security
