'Zimbabwe producing half-baked graduates'

The Zimbabwe National Students' Union (Zinasu) has called on the government to absorb more students on industrial attachment, as the country is currently producing half-baked graduates due to lack of opportunities for learners to gain practical experience.
Many companies have closed shop throughout the country due to the worsening economic crisis, leaving students from the country's 10 State universities, 10 polytechnics and other tertiary institutions with few openings for attachment.
Zinasu spokesperson, Zivai Mhetu said some students failing to find placements had devised innovative ways to fool lecturers sent to assess them.
"A lot of students, who fail to find places for attachment, fake to be on attachment when they are not," he said.
Mhetu said the situation could be rectified if the government made a deliberate effort to offer places for attachment to more students.
