Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere flatly denied that Zanu PF is rolling out residential stands to home seekers  in a bid to buy votes from the electorate.

In a televised parliamentary session today, MDC-T vice president Nelson Chamisa said it was baffling that the Zanu PF led government is only keen on providing residential stands towards key elections.

He said it was tantamount to vote buying.

"Why does government only recognizes the need for people to have decent accommodation towards elections.

"Is it not proper for government to recognize the need for shelter all the time?" asked  Chamisa.

In response,  Kasukuwere said there is no time frame to roll out housing programs adding that the country has a housing backlog of 1,2 million.

"We have always said we want to deliver 313 000 housing units and we never set any time frame for that.

"Whether we are giving people stands towards elections or what, that is your (MDC-T) problem.

"On our side (Zanu PF) were are carrying out wishes of the people. Just leave us alone".

Currently,  government is rolling out residential stands to civil servants  in most towns.

Government has pegged the stands at $4 per square metre with an additional $1 going towards administration fee.

More than 121 000 civil servants have registered for the scheme.

According to the economic blueprint, Zim Asset, Government should by 2018 have availed 313 368 houses across the country.
