Councillors corruption allegations based on misinformation Cllr Chigora

A Bulawayo Councillor Silas Chigora has said the accusations of some Councillors over corruption were based on misinformation and misled the public about the conduct of the Councillors.
According to latest council minutes Chigora expressed concern about the extent to which the public was being misinformed on the issue of indebtedness to Council by certain organisations.
"Councillors were being labelled corrupt merely on the basis of the debit balances reflected on their individual Land sale accounts. This was misleading to members of the public and unfair to the Councillors concerned in that the outstanding amounts/debit balances in each case, were in fact payable over a 5 year period expiring in 2018," reads the minutes.
"The Council's Public Relations office should therefore take it upon itself to correct that misconception. Chigora also suggested the naming and shaming those in Community leadership (including Residents Associations) who were owing Council in respect of rates and services. This would help foster responsible leadership."
