The Bulawayo City Council run Mahatshula Primary School is reported to have been turned into a serious tribal haven where more Shona pupils are currently accorded first preference in the enrollment exercise taking place amid revelations the school head mistress Joice Mambayo has vowed to turn the institution into a full swing Shona pupils institution by next year.
The concerned parents who got wind of the goings on at the school after they bounced back while trying to secure places for their children for grade one said they have discovered that the number of Shona pupils continue to increase at the school such that Shona language has become the main language being spoken at the institution.
This has sparked the ire of Mthwakazi Republic Party which has openly declared that it is annoyed by the behaviour of the head mistress.
MRP Spokesperson Mbonisi Gumbo said according to information the party received Mambayo who is of Shona origin is a tribalist and has became an enemy of the community.
"This has been demonstrated by her hatred of the Ndebele speaking pupils their parents included. She has completely turned Mahatshula primary school into a Shona speaking arena in her ploy to implement the 1979 grand plan. The said head is enrolling only Shona students. She has turned away many Ndebele parents and their children who wish to enroll at the school," Gumbo said.
"We hear that she was recently boosting that next year she will introduce Shona language at the school and phase out Ndebele because the Shona students are now becoming the majority. Some affected parents and sources close to the school said the whole school is being forced to speak in either Shona or English, even the Ndebele teachers are no longer free to use Ndebele at the assembly in fear of victimisation by the school head who have made it clear that she hates Ndebele people and their language with passion."
The headmistress is said to be turning down Ndebele speaking children seeking places especially for grade one and reserves places for Shonas.
"We strongly condemn this kind of behavior by Mambayo , and we appeal to Bulawayo City Council to immediately intervene before its too late. Bulawayo City Council must make sure they make an inquiry before schools open so as to avoid any further problems," Gumbo said.
"We would like to encourage all parents who had their children turned away only for being Ndebele to go back at the said school and try to register again. Failure of which they should put all their complaints in writing and make sure all of them will come in January 2017 at the schools opening, we rather have the school closed or that woman removed from Mahatshula school. This is Matabeleland we can't have people who don't save our interest being allowed to continue holding powerful positions and holding us at ransom."
