Mimosa agrees to the Zvishavane Community Share Ownership Trust

The government and platinum mining giants, Mimosa, have agreed to the setting up of the Zvishavane Community Share Ownership Trust, paving way for its registration before its launch in few weeks time.

After the agreement was reached, a signing ceremony was held, paving the way for the registration of the share trust, which is expected to benefit many people in the area.

Addressing journalists and chiefs, Mimosa Managing Director, Mr Winston Chitando said this shows the commitment of the mine in improving the welfare of communities.

"We have reached an agreement and this is why we are conducting this signing ceremony with traditional chiefs," he said.

Chief Masunda said traditional leaders will work tirelessly in ensuring that the funds realised will be channelled towards developmental projects in the communities, adding that they have been working closely with the firm in the past.

"This is a chance for people in our communities to benefit from the exploitation of the coutry's resources in the area," Chief Masunda said.

The Minister of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment, Saviour Kasukuwere said the indigenisation programme seeks to improve lives of Zimbabweans through ownership of resources.

Let us work together in order to make sure that we utilise this opportunity to uplift the living standards of our people as well as develop the country," he said.

Meanwhile, Kasukuwere said the government is ready to take over the operation of Blanket Mine following the mine's management's move to defy the country's law by labelling the indigenisation process a political gimmick.

The Zvishavane Community Share Ownership Trust is set to benefit communities under chief Mazvihwa, Mapanzure, Hwedza, Mahala and Masunda.
