The Meteorological Services Department has predicted more heavy rains until the 21st of this month, which can lead to potential flooding in most parts of the country.

The head of public weather services in the Met department Mr Tich Zinyemba says the forecasted rainfall may result in sharp downpours, damaging winds, flash flooding and hail.

According to the Met department, this Monday going into Tuesday, Kadoma had received 67 millimetres of rainfall, Marondera 63, Harare Airport 52, Belvedere 45, Rafingora 44, 36 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in Mutare, 43 in Buhera and 33 in Chivhu over a 24 hour period.

Meanwhile some houses built on wetlands in Harare and Chitungwiza are being affected by the heavy precipitation.

On Sunday night residents of Zengeza 4 in Chitungwiza woke up to find water in their houses and there are fears that the situation may even get worse if the heavy rains continue.

The heavy rains are as a result of a cloud system affecting Botswana and South Africa.

Against this background government already activated its civil protection mechanisms with ministries of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing and that of Environment, Water and Climate Change this Monday issuing a warning to the public to take precautionary measures to minimise the dangers that might be a result of increased rainfall this season.
