A Bulawayo based pressure group has said it will be celebrating the unity day at the Stanley Square in Bulawayo on December 22 amid indications the police have since banned the vent.
In a letter of invitation to stake holders dated December 14 the organization said it will be commemorating the end of Genocide in Matabeleland and Midlands which happened in the early 1980s.
"Ibhetshu likaZulu is an organization that formed in 2005 to promote and protect minority rights and advocate for restorative justice. We cordially invite you to the event to be held on December 22 at Stanley Hall Makokoba and Bulawayo at 9am. This is important as it was born out of the blood of over 20 000 people that were massacred from 1982 to 1987. It is on this day that the mass killings were halted by government of Zimbabwe. We are encouraged to were black clothes as we mourn our loved ones," reads the invitation.
Reports say the Police have since turned down the application for clearance filed by the organization there by blocking the event. But it seems the organizations is set to go ahead with the celebrations on the day.
