Zimbabwe and South Africa to launch joint traffic safety campaigns

Zimbabwe and South Africa are set to carry out joint traffic safety awareness campaigns this festive season on both sides of the Limpopo river with calls for motorists to exercise extreme caution to avoid the loss of lives due to road accidents.
The joint road safety campaigns start this week as the two countries seek a coordinated approach in reducing the road accidents this festive season.
Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) Director - Operations, Procter Utete said officials will leave Harare for South Africa to kick-start the joint campaigns with their counterparts on the other side of the Limpopo river with the a similar campaign set to be conducted in Zimbabwe along Beitbridge-Harare road.
Addressing journalists in Harare today, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Dr Joram Gumbo appealed to motorists to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic laws and warned bus operators to avoid over-working their drivers.
According Minister Gumbo, all the relevant authorities including the TSCZ, the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Vehicle Inspectorate Department will be on the ground to ensure that the country will have an accident free festive holiday.
