Victoria Falls
Mayor, Sifiso Mpofu has pleaded with vendors in the resort town to
embrace plastic money instead of turning away customers, particularly
tourists.
With mounting bank note shortages that have gripped Zimbabwe in recent months, service providers have been under pressure to avail Point of Service facilities.
Informal traders in some parts of the country especially in Harare are now using point of sale machines hired from financial institutions for transactions.
"Instead of turning away customers because they do not have cash, vendors should use point of sale machines for easier trading with tourists and residents," Mpofu is quoted saying.
According to reports, Victoria Falls vendors owe council a combined $478 442 in rentals.
Each vendor pays $0.50 per stall per day to council.
