1000 residential stands are set to be rolled out by the Chipinge Rural District Council (RDC) as part of the local authority's contribution to the National Housing Delivery Programme with the authority's US$3 million 2017 budget tilted towards enhancing infrastructure development.
According to ZBC, Chipinge RDC Chief Executive Officer Mr Blessing Mamvocha said focus is to accelerate infrastructure development in 2017 and meet the ZIMASSET targets.
He said 500 residential stands have been rolled out this year with 800 more having been availed for the Youth Village Programme in Checheche.
Mr Mamvocha said the local authority is also teaming up with tourism players in the district to aggressively market the ever green Chirinda forest and revive the sleeping tourism giants in the district, sentiments which were also echoed by district Forestry Commission official Mr Clasport Karimanzira who underscored the need to tap into the numerous tourism attractions in the district.
Chirinda forests is one unique tourist attraction site in Chipinge district and the ever green forest is home to Africa's second longest tree in Africa, the 'Big Tree'.
