Refusal of plastic money by key institutions frustrates consumers

Refusal to accept plastic money by key institutions has worsened the plight of cash starved individuals as the liquidity shortage continues.

Consumers have to queue for long hours just to get secure funds to pay those critical institutions and service providers still demanding hard cash transactions.

Despite the biting cash crisis several institutions are yet to embrace cashless transactions thus grossly inconveniencing consumers.

Motorists seem to be some of the biggest losers as they have to fork out cash at every toll gate and even on police roadblocks if they are fined.

Former banker Mr Godfrey Dupwa believes failure to embrace plastic money has left many consumers frustrated.

For fraud examiner Mr Proctor Nyemba transacting in hard cash fuels corruption as at times the money is channelled into individuals' pockets.

At a time when industry has embraced e-commerce, educational institutions have adopted e-learning, it is high time for key public revenue collecting bodies to also embrace the e-government system adopted in several hospitals.
