The government has gazetted the constitutional amendment bill number one which seeks to amend section 180 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
The bill is proposing that the President be empowered to appoint the chief justice, deputy chief justice and the judge president.
The appointment of chief justice, deputy chief justice and judge president is therefore expected to be done by the President.
This is in line with the constitutional amendment number one published in the extra ordinary gazette on Saturday.
Section 180 provides that the appointment of these senior judiciary officers is done through the interviews in public conducted by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
In terms of section 180, the JSC will then forward names of successful candidates and the President will select the chief justice from the names forwarded by the JSC.
The bill also proposes that Labour Court and the Administrative Court be subordinate to the High Court.
