The Meteorological Services Department says the rainfall forecast released at the onset of the summer season has achieved the expected predictions of normal to above normal rains in the first half.

In a latest report released to the ZBC News, the wet spell characterised by heavy downpours is likely to break for a short period this weekend and resume in the first week of January.

The Senior Weather Forecaster, Mr John Mupuro said as per this year's predictions, most parts of the country should expect normal to above normal rains up to the second half of the season, except for Masvingo and Matabeleland South provinces.

He added that Zaka in Masvingo has already broken the 1950 rainfall record after receiving 135 millilitres.

The latest rainfall forecast should come as good news for the country and farmers in particular as it will boost chances for the Command Agriculture Programme to achieve the target and enhance food security in the country.
