A political analyst Etiwel Mutero‎ has questioned the need for Mthwakazi parties in Zimbabwe following reports that the alleged secessionist parties said the opposition political parties coalitions would flop without the involvement of Mthwakazi parties.

Mthwakazi Republic Party official has said the opposition parties in Zimbabwe need to have a coalition with Mthwakazi parties.

"The so-called Mthwakazi parties says Morgan Tsvangirai (MDC-T leader) needs them in the 2018 grand coalition against Mugabe. They allege they command great number of supporters from Matebeleland such that Tsvangirai must not ignore them as it is alleged Tsvangirai had chosen Mujuru and Welshman Ncube as his partners in the grand coalition dismissing other parties as briefcase political parties," Mutero.

"Do you think the So-Called Mthwakazi parties are relevant in Zimbabwean politics considering they are secessionists?"
