Solomon Mujuru memorial service to be held next month

The memorial service of the late Retired General Solomon Mujuru is expected to be held next month five months after his mysterious death at his Beatrice Farm.

Family sources said the memorial service will be held at the Beatrice Farm, RadioVOP reported.

The real cause of the death is not yet clear as the police are sill to make known what exactly happened to the former army commander. Mujuru died in a mysterious inferno in August and was declared a national hero. What remained of his remains was interred at the national shrine.

Mujuru's elder brother, Joel believes his brother was murdered. His wife, Vice President Joice Mujuru suspects foul play.

Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri said he handed over findings of their investigations to the courts.

The magistrates' court has studied and returned to the police the docket.

Sources said preparations for the memorial service were already at an advanced stage and relatives were already being notified. The date was put at January 21.

The memorial service will be held amid swelling speculation that Mujuru could have been murdered and burnt as a way of concealing evidence.

The elder Mujuru, Joel, said he was angry with the manner in which investigations into his brother's death were being conducted. He said the Mujuru family was also pursuing traditional practice consultations to establish what really befell Zimbabwe's most highly decorated soldier.
