TWO alleged robbers who pounced on Bulawayo provincial magistrate Ntombizodwa Mazhandu's house in Marimba, Harare and bludgeoned her son before looting property worth over R33 000 have appeared in court charged with armed robbery.
George Sakarombe (28) and Norest Zirangwa (31) who are already in remand prison on other cases were remanded in custody to February 16 when they appeared before regional magistrate Mr Clever Tsikwa.
Prosecutor Mr Bruce Tokwe alleges that in February 2009 the pair and two others who are still at large arrived at Ms Mazhandu's house in New Marimba in a Toyota Corona. The gang is alleged to have kicked the door open and entered the house and went to Ms Mazhandu's bedroom, one of them was armed with a metal bar.
One of the gang members hit Ms Mazhandu's son with the metal bar ordering him and Ms Mazhandu to lie down and the alleged victims complied.
The gang allegedly threatened to rape the magistrate if she attempted to raise alarm as they demanded cash from her. Ms Mazhandu told them that the money was in a jacket in a wardrobe. They stole the money, took a 24-inch colour television, a laptop, a Nokia cellphone and a bag of clothes.
The gang tried to sell the laptop to a man in Mufakose but he failed to raise the money and they repossessed it.
The pair was arrested following a tip off and Zirangwa was identified by the magistarate's son
