Tempers have run high in Matabeleland as President Robert Mugabe who is believed to have officially  unleashed the fifth brigade soldiers in the early 1980s  to kill an estimated over 20 000 people in the region will next month celebrate his long life at the door steps of his alleged victims who wanted life like him but were made to lose it.

The concerns of the people in the region come at a time when the ruling Zanu PF is engaged in mobilising resources for the President's 21st February movement his birth day that will be held in Maphisa just close to where some of the Gukurahundi victims are buried in a mass grave at Bhalagwe.

"As much as the president and his Zanu PF has taken 36 years failing to accept that they did wrong by officialising the butchering of our relatives here, it is sad that they dare organise to celebrate the birth day and life of a man who made our innocent  relatives lose life just because they were Ndebeles," said a villager who asked to remain anonymous. "It is like they are celebrating their victory in killing our people and our failure to make them submit and account for their heinous acts.  I think Mugabe and his people must be whipped into line and must learn to respect us."

The remarks come at a time when Zanu PF Matabeleland South Chairman Rabelani Choeni has said preparations for the celebrations of Mugabe's 93rd birth day were at an advance stage and he said they were busy mobilising resources to make the event a success.
