Airlines slash prices by half to woo passengers

The year 2017 has opened with heavy discounts on air tickets bordering on a fare war of sorts to woo passengers back to flying.

Average fares have fallen by 50 percent as airlines cut prices to boost market share amid intensifying competition.The cuts comes as budget airlines are reporting a rise in net profit.

Traditionalairlines have vowed to take market share room rival airlines.

These aggressive discounts have seen the country's largest airlines by market share slashing air fares by half to a number of destinations.

Meanwhile, Rwanda Air says it will launch its inaugural flights to Zimbabwe in April the airline continues with its regional expansion.This comes as Rwanda's national airline last week announces here will was going to be among its new regional and international destinations such as Mumbi, London, Bamako, New York and Lilongwe.

On Thursday, the Rwandese flag said carrier it was set to begin flights to Zimbabwe during the second quarter of this year, bringing closure to route negotiations which commenced 2013.
