Bogus cop gets 10 years for raping a minor

A Harare man, Mavhuto Dinara (33) has been sentenced to ten years in prison for raping a minor. Dinara posed as a policeman and raped a girl who was praying with her young sister at a shrine in Epworth.
Dinara pleaded not guilty to rape charges when he appeared before the Harare regional magistrate Ms Memory Chigwaza who convicted him because of overwhelming evidence.
In passing sentence Ms Chigwaza considered that Dinara was married with three children.
"However, against accused is that he tarnished the image of the police force by lying to the complainant that he had arrested her and was taking her to the police station yet it was a ploy to lure complainant to agree to go with him," said Ms Chigwaza.
"The accused took advantage of the young girl who was praying at a shrine. He had no respect whatsoever as he lured the complainant, who was communicating with her creator."
On October 22 this year around 7pm, the complainant was praying with her sister at Domboramwari Rock in Epworth. Dinara approached the two from behind and misrepresented that he was a policeman and told them that they were under arrest for loitering.
He manhandled the complainant and made her to walk in front of him saying he was taking her to Stop Over where he wanted to pick more prostitutes. The complainant's young sister was left behind. When they got to Jacha River, he shoved the complainant to the ground and raped her. After raping her he escorted her towards Domboramwari.
The complainant's young sister went home and reported the matter to her mother who started to look for the complainant. The complainant later raised alarm resulting in her mother apprehending the bogus cop with assistance of members of the public.
