The Chipinge District Civil Protection Unit (CPU) is on high alert to respond to the ever increasing water levels in Save River which is posing a serious threat of floods.
Chipinge district administrator Mr William Mashava said they are fully prepared to deal with any disaster and emergency threats that may arise.
In an interview with ZBC News, Mr Mashava said the CPU has been activated and has been busy educating the people living in the low lying areas of the possibilities of floods.
There is an air of panic around Tongogara refugee camp that once the Save River gives in, the floods will affect the camp, says the refugee camp administrator Mr Misheck Zengeya.
Mr Mashava added combined education awareness campaigns with the drought relief committee is being implemented in view of the ongoing rainfall patterns which have a possibility of landslides in the upper side of the district.
A number of villages along the Save River mainly in Chibuwe and Masimbe area are usually the most affected.
The government attempts to relocate the Masimbe villagers to higher ground failed to yield positive results as most of the villagers resisted.
