A 24-year-old Mvurwi security guard was fatally stuck with an axe in the head over fire wood brawl on Saturday.
It is alleged James Chiruva of Strike Security Company in Forester C Mvurwi Mashonaland Central province was killed in cold blood by three tobacco farmers Wilfred Mapondera 54 from Chiweshe, Nelson Matiza (25) and one accomplice who is still at large.
Eye witnesses who spoke to Bulawayo24.com said Chiruva was murdered around 21:00hours after he tried to apprehend the trio from illegally chopping down the estate's trees.
"The deceased was a no nonsense guard and was well known for bashing and arresting culprits so the suspects had always threatened to kill him but finally succeeded on Saturday 28 January around 21:00hours.
Two suspects are already at Mvurwi place after they were identified by the axe and watch they left on the scene," said the source.
Chiruva's body has since been taken to Mvurwi mortuary for safe keeping.
Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Milton Mundembe could not be reached for comment up to the time of this writing.
Cases of murder are mushrooming in Zimbabwe and police is calling for the public to solve their problems amicably and respect human life.
