Police in plaint clothing have been accused of sneaking into a Mthwakazi Republic Party's private meeting over the weekend forcing the members to abort the plans to debate over issues.

MRP spokesperson Mbonisi Gumbo said MRP National executive called off the meeting that was scheduled for 14:00pm, after three ZRP officers in plain clothes had forced themselves into the meeting. In fact they were first to arrive into the venue, Bekerly Place in Bulawayo.

"This was suppose to be a private planning meeting as we prepare for election campaign. Only the National executive and provincial executive members were suppose to attend," he said.

"The three police officers in plain clothes introduced themselves to the Secretary General Hloniphani Ncube as CID law and order from Central police station. One of them identified herself as Melody Sibanda and the others didn't identify themselves."

"We couldn't allow the Zimbabwe Republic Police into our private meeting. We don't know who called the police into the meeting."

He said all this took place before the arrival of the President.

"As a party we condemn this kind of behaviour from the police who have allowed themselves to be used by ZANU PF as a tool of oppression. This is the second time these people intruding into our meetings," he said.

"They unlawfully arrested us in Lupane after the celebration party and now they are invading our private meeting? We are a peaceful party, but the state apparatus are pushing us too far. If they continue this way we might as well call off our elections plans and resort to other means as necessary in our struggle."

Gumbo said they already had people outside MRP who do not want them to contest elections for the same reasons that the elections won't be free and fair.

"So if we are not allowed to have executive meetings how can we plan?
In future if you won't be able to have meetings then ZANU PF also will not be allowed in Mthwakazi. Below are pictures taken outside the Berkeley place, some of MRP leaders talking to the CID police there," he said.
