The ZimRights has engaged in community outreach programme in Mutasa area to educating villagers about the constitution's contents.
In a statement, ZimRights said it took its initiative of educating communities about the contents of the Constitution to Mutasa district in Manicaland province.
"The recent meeting which was held at Mutasa Rural District Council on Monday, January, 30, 2017 centred its focus on educating citizens about the need to uphold section 44 of the people-driven Constitution that came into use in May 2013," ZimRights said.
"Section 44 of the constitution obligates every citizen of Zimbabwe to respect, protect, promote and fulfil the Constitution, thereby giving citizens a duty to protect the values contained in the supreme law. Among the people present at the meeting were Ward 11 councillor Lillian Chadzingwa, village heads, headman and ZimRights members, who agreed that all laws must be aligned with the Constitution."
"The calls for alignment of laws come at a time government is making unpopular moves to bring in constitutional amendments. The Mutasa meeting equally comes at the backdrop of a marathon of meetings since the Constitution was adopted to familiarise communities with section 48-78, the Bill of Rights which is central to human rights protection in Zimbabwe."
ZimRights said meanwhile, last week on Friday, January 27, 2017, ZimRights held another meeting at Mukoyi village which in Ward 17 of Mutasa Central Constituency.
"The purpose of the meeting was to build the skills and strengthen the resolve of the community structures of the organisation to defend human rights in the area," ZimRights said..
