Brothers fight over witchcraft

AN ELDERLY man Tuesday hauled his younger brother to court for allegedly bashing him for refusing to divorce his wife.

Stenilas Madzimure claimed that his younger brother Peter Madzimure physically abused him and his wife saying the couple had bewitched his child.

"At first he came and started shouting that my wife had bewitched his child and threatened me that if I do not divorce her he would beat me up.

"He went and reported to the chief and somehow he managed to convince him to chase me out of the place I had built my house and I went on to reside in the fields," said Stenilas.

"He later came to the fields where I had built a house, threatening to beat me up if I did not divorce my wife," he added.

In response, Peter who admitted to visiting his brother on a number of occasions, told the court that it was only to discuss the problems he was facing.

"I only went there to talk to him about the child's health since he is the older one in the family. I wanted him to come see my problem and assist me," said Peter.

"When we sometimes go to the churches to look for solutions and sometimes we are told to seek assistance as a whole family and when I ask my brother and his wife to come along they refuse."

Stenilas was granted the peace order he sort by magistrate Sharon Rakafa who presided over the matter.
