Stakeholders meet, discuss constitutional amendment bill

Stakeholders attending the public outreach programme discussing constitutional amendment number one in Bulawayo have concurred that the procedure should be done according to law.
Stakeholders met in Bulawayo to discuss the constitutional amendment number one bill and there was agreement from both legal minds and members of the public that nothing stops government from amending the constitution.
Retired judge Justice Moses Chinhengo said there should be no challenges if government sticks to the supreme law of the land.
The Southern African Parliamentary Support Trust also encouraged members of the public to contribute their views from an informed position when they participate in the upcoming outreaches.
As stipulated in the constitution the process will have to go through public consultations.
At least two thirds of the total membership of each house will be the requirement in parliament for the bill to sail through.
The bill is expected to create an amendment that will allow the President to appoint the Chief Justice after government indicated an earlier hitch which created a complication where juniors were being involved in interviewing their would be boss who is the head of the judiciary.
