A Harare vendor Tariro Zhangazha has gone missing according to civil rights activist Linda Masarira.

In a statement Masarira said as citizens of Zimbabwe they were deeply concerned about the disappearance of Tariro Zhangazha, an informal sector trader, who was separated from her child, who is less than two years, when she was arrested and severely assaulted by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers and Harare City Council's municipal police officers, who bundled her into their truck in central Harare.

"Zimbabwe has had thousands of enforced disappearances and more recently we have lost Itai Dzamara who is yet to be found. Tariro Zhangazha becomes recent case of a harmless citizen who we lost to the Zimbabwean state apparatus and the Zimbabwe Republic Police in general," Masarira said.

"As citizens of Zimbabwe we are currently in the midst of #21DayofActivism and today's theme is 'No To Police Brutality'. We are thus making a clear declaration that  ZRP is responsible for her disappearance and we are demanding her immediate release."

She said they were also appealing to members of the public who may have information leading to her whereabouts to get in touch with Zimbabwe Lawyers For Human Rights' advocate Jeremiah Bamu who is leading the search.

"In the same vein, we are imploring President Robert Mugabe to deal with all such cases of enforced disappearances before he celebrates his $2million birthday," said  Masarira.
