AN Epworth man yesterday left the gallery in stitches when he refused to leave the dock demanding a plate of isitshwala.
Godknows Mutyoramwendo, 25, made his claims when he appeared before Harare magistrate Elisha Singano charged with murder.
"Your Worship I want my sadza here. Before I came here, you promised me that you were going to give me isitshwala.
"…hey leave me alone and tell the magistrate that I want my isitshwala or else I am not going anywhere.
"Ini ndiri mwana wevhu saka ndiri kuda sadza (isitshwala) rangu; I'm not going to leave here until I have my isitshwala," he said.
The prison officers had to drag him forcing the court to take a brief adjournment since he would not stop calling for his isitshwala.
Due to the drama Mutyoramwendo had caused, the court ordered the State that he be taken to a mental institution where he will be examined by three different doctors.
Mutyoramwendo is standing accused of stabbing his wife with a knife in a misunderstanding.
Circumstances leading to the arrest of Mutyoramwendo are that on February 19 this year in Epworth, he was in bed with the now deceased Samantha Itayi Gumi who was his wife.
The two are alleged to have had a domestic dispute which is believed to be from way back.
It is alleged that during the dispute, Mutyoramwendo produced a hunter's knife which he used to stab his wife.
It is said after the incident, he locked the bedroom door where the body was and went outside where he furiously ran after his 17-year-old brother whom he blamed for not respecting him.
It is alleged that he started to break all the windows of their house after his father tried to stop him acting violently.
He was only stopped by police after the father had made a report.
Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.
He is expected to appear back in court on February 28.
