Two children aged seven and eight were seriously injured in Mazowe after a stick of dynamite they had picked up exploded last week.
Mashonaland Central provincial police spokesperson Inspector Memory Pamire said the incident occurred last Wednesday. The two minors - Tobias Kanyere (7) and Windas Mafiro (8) - were treated at Mazowe Citrus Clinic.
According to Insp Pamire, the children were playing in a stormwater drain when they picked up the dynamite and took it home.
"Upon arriving home, they tried to retrieve some protruding wires from the dynamite using their hands and failed. Mafiro then took a hammer and started hitting the dynamite resulting in it exploding," she said.
"They were taken to Mazowe Citrus Clinic where they were treated and discharged on the same day. We are in the rainy season, so objects like dynamite are bound to be washed away. This is a mining area.
"Parents should always look out for their children to avoid such cases."
