A MBARE woman yesterday claimed her ex-husband sneaked into her apartment and stole their child's school fees invoices to produce as evidence in court to cover up for his default in paying maintenance.

Shyleen Chimanga, who was seeking upward variation from her ex-husband Richard Mushore, told the court that her husband had left home for no reason and was neglecting to pay maintenance money as previously ordered by the court.

"He came and stole the invoices he is producing as evidence today since he has his own keys to my house.

"I want him to give me the money and not say he will pay the school fees and provide for the food and clothes when he gets the money.

"We are currently using one room with his family and myself, we had to divide the room and now I want to move out and look for a place to stay with my child.

"He owns a car park and also sells some building material so I know he can afford to pay the $120 I need."

She added:

"We stay in Mbare and people are afraid to leave their cars unattended at night because of rampant thieves so they park at his car park every night."

In response, Richard asked to pay school fees for his child direct to the rather than give the money to Shyleen as it allows him to make payment plans with the school.

"I will pay school fees for the child and provide clothes whenever I get the money.

"Currently, I have a pending warrant of arrest I have to attend to because I have been defaulting from paying maintenance not because I do not want to but because I have hit hard times.

"Recently, there has been an increase in the number of new car parks in Mbare such that my business has declined, but if things change I am willing to increase the money."

The matter was postponed for ruling to today by magistrate Barbra Mateko who presided over the matter.
