A Zanu PF official in Mwenezi East ward 2 recently forced the villagers to produce receipts showing that they were registered voters ahead of the by elections.

Heal Zimbabwe Trust reported that on  March 1, Zanu PF District Vice Chairperson Ezra Masvingi convened a meeting at Matande Primary School.

"He then ordered people to produce receipts of voter registration as proof that they had indeed registered to vote in the upcoming by election that is due on the 8th of April 2017. Masvingi then announced that if people in ward 2 wanted to continue receiving food aid, they should vote for Zanu PF and said that Zanu PF will soon embark on a door to door campaign to check if everyone in the ward had registered to vote," he said.

Meanwhile in Mwenezi East Ward 2, Moffat Moyo who was in the company of five Zanu PF youths assaulted Hlongani Ncube at Rata Business Centre on the 24th of February 2017.

The trust said Moyo accused Ncube of boycotting Zanu PF meetings called for in the area.

"Moyo also told Ncube that because of his continued support for the opposition party, MDC-T, he was not going to receive any food aid that comes into the ward. Ncube reported the case at Neshuro police station leading to the arrests of Moyo and he is yet to appear in court," said the trust.

The trust said in Mwenezi East ward 5, Violence broke out at Neshuro Growth Point on the 22nd of February 2017 between supporters of Zanu PF leaders Cuthbert Webster Muzara and Joosbi Omar.

"Muzara is a losing candidate in the party's primary elections held ahead of the Mwenezi East by-election meeting while Omar is the winning candidate. On the day in question, Muzara confronted Omar at the growth point accusing him of not repairing a bridge that had been washed away by heavy rains in the ward. Omar then told Muzara that it was not his responsibility alone to fix the bridge but that of the whole community," said the trust.

"An argument then ensued between the two and led to a violent confrontation among their supporters. The police from Neshuro Sub Office Base later intervened and managed to restrain the supporters but no arrests were made. No injuries were sustained."
