The Ministry of Welfare Services for War Veterans, War Collaborators, Former Political Detainees and Restrictees says preparations are on course for a second meeting between war veterans and President Robert Mugabe.

In a statement, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry,  Retired Brigadier-General Asher Tapfumaneyi said the meeting with the head of state is scheduled for the first to the second week of next month.

"This meeting, along the precedent set in the inaugural meeting held on 7 April 2016, will review the implementation of resolutions of the first meeting and discuss all outstanding issues relevant to the welfare, economic empowerment and socio-political situation of war veterans," Retired Brigadier-General Tapfumaneyi said.

He reiterated that it is the sole responsibility of his ministry and not of any of the associations purporting to represent its clients including the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, however led or configured, to organise and co-ordinate the forthcoming meeting with the President.

In the meantime, the ministry is urging all veterans of the liberation struggle not to attend any other meetings that may be convened without its authority purporting either to be preparing for the President's April meeting or falsely claiming that the head of state is its host and keynote speaker.
