ZRP increases patrols

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it has intensified day and night patrols within greater Harare suburbs following an increase in car theft smash and grab crimes.
With the rainy season upon us and tall grass and maize crop along the roads, robbers are targeting motorists and smash and grabs are on the increase, compelling the ZRP to increase and intensify day and night patrols to protect the travelling public.
"Of course we have increased patrols but motorists must be alert on the road as it takes less than a minute for a thief to break into a car and snatch a laptop, handbag and a purse," ZRP Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said.
Car break-ins are a huge problem especially at shopping malls, schools and at airports.
The ZRP in its endeavour to raise awareness among the public offers some common sense habits that help prevent car break-ins and these include hiding valuables such as handbags and laptops, parking where there is activity, keeping one's car visible in well-lit areas and not making it easy for thieves to steal by keeping car alarms on, windows and sunroofs closed and doors locked.
