The Acting President, Joice Mujuru has sent a message of condolences to the families of 11 children who drowned at Lake Chivero on Christmas day, the Zbc News reported.
In a statement, Mujuru expressed grief and shock over the loss of lives due to negligence.
She said she feels the pain, especially considering that some families, like the Ruzvido family lost three children in the incident.
"As a mother and a grandmother, I feel the full horror of this whole incident, all of it aggravated by the staggering toll borne by the victim family, the Ruzvidzo family, which lost three children in that accident," said Mujuru.
The Acting President also said monetary gains should not be put ahead of lives.
"Such reckless disregard of life in its innocence trigger deep questions in all of us, more so in those in our midst whose quest for money and profit simply cheapen life in this extraordinary way," she added.
She said families who lost their beloved children should find solace in that the nation joins them in their time of pain and sorrow.
The 11 children drowned on Christmas Day at Lake Chivero aboard a reportedly unregistered boat that also had no life jackets.
Police have also indicated that the boat, which has a capacity to carry seven people, was also overloaded with 17 people.
Meanwhile, the boat owner, Latif Ameer and crew members; Fadil Ramon Weale, Enock Yorani Zulu and Joseph Abraham have appeared in court facing 11 counts of culpable homicide and have been granted US$500 bail each.
They are expected back in court on the 11th of January, 2012.
