A political commentator Petros Joseph Dube has questioned if it should be ruled out the possibility of a separate Mthwakazi State revival amid calls are escalating in the region for the resuscitation of the Mthwakazi state.

"Historically most attempts to secede were successful although some were pursued violently , leading to loss of innocent lives. In Africa secession was successful in countries like Lesotho; Gune De Cape Verde leading to formation of Cape Verde Islands and Guinea Bissau ;Sudan leading to formation of South Sudan .However we still have a few secessionist advocates in few African countries like Algeria, Cameroon and our very own Republic of Mthwakazi in Zimbabwe," he said.

"Recently, we have witnessed a huge escalation of the calls for a separate state called the Republic of Mthwakazi from diverse secessionist activists and groups. Some have rubbished the calls and labelled the secessionist as " Day dreamers" or " Zviroto" in Shona."

He asked that however, considering that historically such endeavours were successful, should we rule out the possibility of the Republic of Mthwakazi ?
