A 19-month-old baby girl that went missing in Masvingo on Christmas Day was yesterday found dead a few metres from the family house. Nokutula Rwaibva went missing on Christmas Day.
According to the baby's grandmother, Mbuya Molyn Maziva, the toddler's body was found dumped in front of the house she disappeared from.
Her body was discovered by a tenant at the same house in the early hours of yesterday morning, four days after her disappearance.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tinaye Matake confirmed the incident.
"We have taken the body to Masvingo General Hospital for post-mortem and we are investigating the case," said Inspector Matake.
Mbuya Maziva said the baby's body had been immersed in boiling water as most of her skin had pealed off.
On the day she went missing, the toddler was said to have been playing outside the house while her mother, Abigail Bheka, was asleep.
When the mother woke up later, she thought the baby had gone to the neighbours' house.
When she did not find the child, she ran onto the streets searching for her.
Some passers-by reported noticing a man carrying a baby with clothes matching the description the mother was giving.
A report was promptly made to the police immediately.
Mbuya Maziva accused the police of inaction after the report was made saying they only came to her house around 7pm on Boxing Day to start investigations.
