Agriculture Minister Joseph Made has professed ignorance of spirited sustained criticism of the government sponsored Command Agriculture project my Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Jonathan Moyo.
Moyo has been attacking the scheme saying its a failed project.
Moyo has described the project on his twitter account saying "Report by @Herald Zimbabwe that "Command Agric exceeds target" is at best premature & at worst needlessly false!"
"Command is a tried & tested military concept. It is also a great in programming. But in civil matters command is an oxymoron & non starter!"
He added "After merchants of Command Agriculture poured $500 (million) to plant maize on 153,102.60ha, they now want a Command Economy!"
However, in parliament on Wednesday Made refused to be drawn into the 'fight'.
He claimed he is not aware of Moyo's comments.
Below is part of the debate as recorded by the Parliamentary Hansard
*HON. SITHOLE: Thank you Madam Speaker. I would like to know what Government plans are and the position of the Government concerning Command Agriculture. We heard one of the Government leaders saying that Command Agriculture implementation did not work out well. Professor Jonathan Moyo appeared on television saying that. So we would like to find out from the Minister that is it true that Command Agriculture did not yield the intended results? Thank you.
I would like to thank the Hon. Member for the question. I am not aware of what he is talking about.
THE HON. DEPUTY SPEAKER: Who is saying that? Hon. Minister, are you referring to what was said by the Hon. Member or what? You are giving the answer yourself, can we hear it from the Minister? – [HON. MEMBERS: Inaudible interjections.] - Hon. Members on my right, that is too much.
HON. DR. MADE: I am very clear on what the Hon. Member said that Professor Moyo had said this. I do not know that. - HON. MEMBERS: Inaudible interjections.]
