Chiredzi Magistrate Geraldina Mutsoto today heard that a Soldier based at Battle Fields barracks in Kwekwe assaulted an MDC-T supporter at Vhurumuku business centre in Chiredzi because the complainant had told him not to continue protecting 'dead' President Robert Mugabe.
The soldier Hardlife Makuyana (29) pleaded guilty to the offence of assaulting Brighton Dzvova, an Mdc t supporter in Chiredzi.
The accused was convicted on his own plea and sentenced to 30 days in prison or to pay a fine of $100.
"I assaulted the complainant because he insulted my Commander in Chief whom he said was almost dead," the soldier told the Court.
However the Magistrate had no mercy on the soldier whom he told that he should have reported the complainant to the police.
The magistrate also noted that cases of public violence are on the increase hence the need to convict such offenders.
Facts of the matter as outlined by State said in January the soldier saw the complainant wearing his party regalia while watching a televised soccer match.
He approached the complaint and asked him why he was wearing the T-shirt before threatening to kill him come 2018 elections.
The soldier is also said to have grabbed the complainant's T-Shirt and poked him on the forehead before he was restrained by other revellers.
