ZRP ban weapons in town

Police have issued an order barring the carrying and display of weapons such as catapults, axes, machetes, knives, daggers and knobkerries in Harare central district for three months.
The order has been issued by the officer commanding Harare central police district Chief Superintendent Jasper Chizemo ahead of "notifications for public demonstrations" slated for March 22 to March 25.
"The belief is informed the notifications for public demonstrations lined up in my district of jurisdiction on the 22/03/17, 23/03/17 and 25/03/17.
"…Issue an order prohibiting the carrying of such weapons within my district for three months that is from 22March to 22 June 2017," read the statement.
In a statement, the police said the ban, issued in terms of section 14(1) of the Public Order and Security Act (Chapter 11:17), will be in effect from March 22 to June 2017 and covering areas bounded by Coventry Road, Churchill Road, Enterprise Road, Mukuvisi River up to the National Railways of Zimbabwe and Rotten Row Road among other areas.
The police said anyone who fails to comply with the order will be liable for prosecution.
